After teaching elementary school for 14 years, I took a job as a Research Specialist and was subsequently promoted to Director of Research & Evaluation with the DeKalb County School District in Georgia. I worked as Educational Measurement & Assessment Specialist with Virginia Beach City Public Schools from 2008 through 2019 and have been on the adjunct faculty at Old Dominion University since 2014. I am a founding member of Edjacent, an educator design collaborative, and regular contributor to Edjacent's blog.
I was born in Gary, Indiana, and lived in Canton, Ohio, and Danville, Illinois, before moving with my parents to Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 11. My son served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, my daughter recently graduated from the University of Virginia, and my wife of 25 years is the best teacher I've ever worked with. My other passion besides education is association football (aka soccer). After playing and coaching for over 40 years, I'm now just a devoted fan of the sport.
I earned my bachelor’s and doctorate in education from the University of Georgia, as well as a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. My areas of expertise are:
